Last October 17-18, 2018, KPMG Philippines (R.G. Manabat & Co.) conducted an advanced way of training for the newly promoted Supervisors. This training was named Learning Excellence to Advance Potential (LEAP). The objective of this training is to enhance the participants' potential not just on the technical aspects of being an effective supervisors but also the soft skills that most of the company's take for granted.
With the new management under Chairman & CEO Ms. Sharon G. Dayoan, this kind of training was made possible. This is only one of her projects that will surely help not just the Firm to grow but also the people of the Firm. At KPMG, our leaders believe on the value of their people and this is the very reason why they are conducting this kind of training. KPMG believes that investing to people is the key to success because without them the Firm won't exist.

At the beginning of the training, SGD (Chairman & CEO) gives her opening remarks and tells us about what's going to happen for the next two days of training. She told us the purpose of having this kind of training and why this training will be different from our other training in the Firm. According to Ms. Jing (one of the facilitator), SGD take so much effort just to make this training possible. Our Chairman & CEO even spends half of her Saturdays just to check every materials that will be provided on the training. She makes sure that this training will truly enhance her people so that they will be effective on their new roles at the Firm.
For the LEAP Training - Batch 5, we have met facilitators coming from different fields of Advisory and Audit. The photo above shows our facilitators, from left to right, there is Sir Carlo from Audit, Ms. Dane Senior Manager from Advisory, SGD our Chairman & CEO, Ms. Jing from Advisory and WRA Partner from Audit.
"Things starts with small beginnings and eventually you'll get there."
- Warren R. Angeles, Audit Partner
"We grow in character when we take the high road."
- Marijune Mallari
"If others can do it, I can do it."
- Danielle I. Ong, Advisory Senior Manager
Our facilitators tackles our new roles and responsibilities as supervisors. They have emphasized the values of the Firm that we must always carry wherever we go not just in our minds but also in our hearts. Because at KPMG, we believe that demonstrating our values will set us apart from others. Our facilitators also shares their own experiences and learning during their stay at KPMG. They have shared how they climb the ladder and achieve their career goals with the Firm.
During the training, we were ask to group ourselves in which the group must contain people coming from different BDUs and field of Audit, Advisory and Tax. The photo above shows my picture with my groupmates. From left to right, there is Allen from Audit, Me from Tax, Macoy from Audit, Raziel from Audit and Joanna from Tax. We're all been working together for two days of training.
As we share our thoughts and ideas in every activity, we also learned from each other on how we are conducting business in every field and on how we interact with our clients and colleagues. As we get along, we learned that there're different kinds of way on how we do business. We have talked on how we send proposals to clients, the risk management processes and the likes.
On a personal note, I didn't expect that at the end on this training I will learn that much within two days. This training doesn't only teach me how to become an effective supervisor but also reminded me for who I am and for who I want to be. This training made me realized that I am in transition and there's a lot of things I need to improve. I just need to be patient because becoming a leader, getting the people's trust and so is feeling fulfilled is a journey. I know that there will be challenges and it will be hard. But I need to persevere and keep going. If I don't feel I'm making an impact now, someday, I will be. And if I don't know where to start, I just need to look back and remember why I started in the first place. Then, I can start with the little things. In the little things, I can start making an impact. Little by little, over time, I can make a real difference.
At the end of the program, we were ask to write our reflection or wisdom and post it on the wisdom wall provided in the training room. I wasn't able to take a good shot of my reflection but the photo above is the replica of my realization during the two days training. All my reflection posted in the wisdom wall can be identified by the smiley face I wrote in every sticky note. So if you found one with a smiley face, that's mine! Well I hope I'm the only one who puts smiley face in all the reflections posted in the wisdom wall. Hahaha. ^_^
After the training, we are given a chance to take a selfie with the one and only Chairman & CEO of the firm, Ms. Sharon. I'm a little bit shy and overwhelmed after the training so I wasn't able to make chitchat with her. But at least our group was able to take a selfie with her. Thanks for all the inspiring message, Ms. Sharon! ^_^
On behalf of LEAP Training 2018 - Batch 5, I would like to thank all the people who made this training possible, especially to SGD and Ms. Jing who take so much efforts conceptualizing the content and program of the training. You guys are amazing! Thank you for all your support, for empowering us and for lifting us to become a good leader just like you. I hope someday I can make you all proud. ^_*
